• 50, 100, 150 and 300 mg are labelled amounts per tablet for four current generic products. They are not a calculator for adding numbers, assembling a strength or choosing tablets from sleep duration. A score must be checked against the exact manufacturer label and prescription rather than treated as automatic permission to split.
• Do not drive or operate hazardous machinery when somnolence, dizziness or impaired cognitive/motor performance occurs. Older adults and people using blood-pressure medicines, diuretics, sedatives, alcohol or other CNS depressants need priority review for orthostatic hypotension, syncope, falls, dehydration and the complete medicine list.
• Older adults, people using diuretics or those who are volume depleted also need review for hyponatraemia. Marked weakness, headache, confusion, unsteady gait, falls, seizures or altered awareness needs timely medical assessment rather than attribution to age or poor sleep alone.
• Another serotonergic antidepressant, tramadol, lithium, buspirone, amphetamine, tryptophan, St John's wort, an MAOI, linezolid or intravenous methylene blue on the list requires priority review for serotonin syndrome and contraindication boundaries. Do not self-combine, time-separate or alternate them.
