How this medicine works

The FDA label says pregabalin binds with high affinity at the alpha2-delta site, an auxiliary subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels in central-nervous-system tissues; its full mechanism is not completely understood. The label also says that although it is structurally related to GABA, it does not directly bind GABAA, GABAB or benzodiazepine receptors. Mechanism explains pharmacologic clues, not an individual's pain, seizure, anxiety, dose or suitability with another sedating medicine.

Check the market, names, dosage form and route together

A medicine may use different brand names across markets. Keep the market, brand, generic name, dosage form and route together; one matching field does not prove that two packs are the same or interchangeable.

What this pack is

Lyrica is the brand name in this record; pregabalin is the generic name. Read both together with the dosage form (oral liquid).

What this page can show

This is a source-traceable public record. It helps you read the product identity and its listed source documents; each market still needs its own current record check.

What to bring to the next conversation

Bring the actual pack, the label or prescription, and a complete medicine list when you speak with a pharmacist or clinician.

PRODUCT PRESENTATION IDENTITY

Strength, pack and device identity

Package strength is not an individual dose. These fields help identify the exact labelled product; they do not calculate how much, how often, a missed-use action, splitting, switching or conversion.

A capsule's mg and an oral solution's mg/mL are different labelled identity fields. They never create a capsule-to-millilitre conversion, individual amount, taper, stopping or switching plan.

First match the market, dosage form and labelled amount on the pack in hand. The number of tablets, sachets or devices in a pack is not a personal dose or schedule.

LABEL READING · NOT A PRESCRIPTION

LYRICA label reading: capsules, oral solution and milligrams are not one number

Reading level: drug-specific label reading. This record has been expanded around its dosage form or a higher-risk reading question; the current target-market label and professional review still apply.

This module only helps read product-identity and risk clues in the 2025 U.S. FDA label; it does not provide an individual pregabalin dose, missed-dose, taper or switching plan.

  • Check LYRICA, pregabalin, capsule or oral solution, stated strength and target market together. Capsule mg and oral-solution concentration are not an answer that can be self-converted into a number of capsules or millilitres; confirm from the actual prescription and product label.
  • This FDA label lists effects such as dizziness and somnolence for attention and flags combinations with other central-nervous-system depressants for extra review. With older age, falls, alcohol, or sleep, sedative or pain medicines, bring the full medicine list to a pharmacist or clinician.
  • The label also warns against self-directed abrupt discontinuation. Any taper, stop, or conversion between capsule and oral solution needs a plan from the prescribing team for the exact product and condition, not a webpage or package photo.

Check safety information in the right market

Start with the public label or product record linked to this dossier, then use the official safety routes below for the market that applies to the medicine in hand.

Match five details before using a safety record

  1. Brand and generic nameBoth must match the medicine named by the record.
  2. Dosage form and strengthTablet, capsule, injection, inhaler, patch and eye drop are not interchangeable.
  3. Market and notice dateA record applies only to the country or region and date it names.
  4. Lot, pack and manufacturerRecord these only when the official notice specifically names them.
  5. Current product informationA historical record may have been superseded by the current label.

This checklist only helps organise the right question. It does not create a personal conclusion about stopping, switching, dose, combination or suitability.

Reviewed official safety records

A dated record is not automatically a current alert. Read the named product, form, batch, market, date and source type before treating it as relevant.

  • FDA Drug Safety Communication: serious breathing-problem warning for gabapentinoids including Lyrica (pregabalin)2019-12-19 · On 2019-12-19, FDA issued a Drug Safety Communication that explicitly lists Lyrica (pregabalin) and says serious breathing difficulties may occur with gabapentinoids in people with respiratory risk factors. The communication names use with opioid pain medicines or other central-nervous-system depressants, conditions that reduce lung function, and older age as context; FDA required respiratory-depression warnings in U.S. gabapentinoid prescribing information. This is a dated U.S. class regulatory communication. It does not mean that any Lyrica pack, another dosage form or market, any combination, or any individual has a problem, and it does not support self-stopping, reducing, increasing, switching, or independently adding/splitting Lyrica with another sedating medicine. Trouble breathing, unusual unresponsiveness, inability to wake, or another emergency requires local emergency services; non-emergency combination or risk questions need the actual pack and complete medicine list reviewed by a pharmacist or prescribing team.Primary-source record (open linked document) ↗reviewed 2026-08-22

PACK · LABEL · MEDICINE LIST

Six checks for this medicine pack

Use this card to organise questions about Lyrica (pregabalin). Keep the exact pack, its current label and the full medicine list together.

  1. Identify the exact product

Lyrica is the brand in this record and pregabalin is the active-ingredient name. Check both with the dosage form (Oral capsules 25/50/75/100/150/200/225/300 mg; oral solution 20 mg/mL(as documented in this record)) and the market on the actual pack.

  2. Read the labelled strength in context

mg, mcg, mg/mL or a percentage describes the labelled amount in one tablet, capsule, measured volume, spray or other unit. It is not an answer to how many units a person should take.

  3. Check before splitting or opening

Before splitting, crushing, chewing or opening anything, find an explicit instruction for this exact product in its current label and ask a pharmacist. A score line or a previous pack is not enough by itself.

  4. Put every product on one list

Include prescriptions, over-the-counter products, eye drops, creams, vitamins, minerals, herbs and supplements. A pharmacist or prescriber needs the whole list before any combination, alternation, switch or stop is considered.

  5. Ask a specific pharmacogenetics question

Ask which medicine, which gene and what clinical decision a result could change. A gene–drug association does not mean broad genetic testing is needed for everyone and must not be used to change treatment without professional review.

  6. Know when to seek urgent help

For a suspected overdose, a severe allergic reaction, fainting or difficulty breathing, use the local emergency or poison-information service now. Do not wait for a website reply or alter several medicines to test what caused it.

This card does not calculate a dose, decide whether medicines can be combined, or replace a clinician or pharmacist. Market-specific current labels and the person's full context still need review.

MARKET DOCUMENTS · READ SEPARATELY

Enlarged market leaflets and regulator documents

Each link retains its own market, date, dosage form and document status. These documents support larger-print reading and item-by-item checking; they do not make products, strengths, packs, indications or use between countries or regions interchangeable.

HOW IT WORKS · NOT A TREATMENT PLAN

How pregabalin works: it binds with high affinity at the alpha2-delta site of voltage-gated calcium channels in the central nervous system

  • A name or structural relationship to GABA does not make LYRICA equivalent to a benzodiazepine, sleep medicine, opioid or other sedative, or self-combinable, substitutable or convertible by milligrams. Especially with older age, falls, alcohol or multiple medicines, the complete medicine list needs professional review.
  • An alpha2-delta calcium-channel mechanism does not turn capsules, oral solution, extended-release products or different strengths into one self-interchangeable product. Dosage form, concentration, kidney function, actual pack and prescription must be checked as complete information.
  • Drowsiness, dizziness, altered alertness, breathing-related discomfort, falls or another new symptom cannot be used with a mechanism page to decide self-increase, reduction or stopping. Contact a local clinician, pharmacist or, when needed, urgent support with the actual pack and complete medicine list.

RECORD FAQ

Record questions

Does a label archive represent current product information?

Not automatically. The archive locates a source; each point needs verification against the target market’s current official label.

Why are price and originator/generic conclusions not shown?

Those conclusions require separately complete and human-reviewed product, dosage-form, strength, pack, market, date and primary-record fields; one label file is insufficient.
